COALESCE FOR MINOR: 3D HYPERCRAFT In association with Rosalin Conijn 3D Hypercraft is a minor that is very digital oriented. Within the minor we started by picking where we wanted to design for, we choose for the Dutch army. Based on what we chose we had to do research, what do soldiers need and where can we base our concept on? We decided that we would focus on the merging of the human and the technology. The digital revolution effects all around us, and so will our soldier be affected by this digitalization of society. As a technological feature we decided to implement the Hyperstealth Technology in our designs, which bends the light around its wearer to make him/her completely invisible for the naked eye, and IR and infrared viewers. To visualise the technology we wanted to use, we designed our own print which completely blends in with the desert surrounding. As a part of this minor we evaluated the current combat gear: what needs to improve? We improved the fit and took our inspration from the sportswear. Our USP is our bulletproof vest with an unique material combination for the soft ballistics: we combined Dyneema and Kevlar. We got the opportunity to test our reinvented soft ballistics at a research facility, provided by the Dutch army. Our designs had to be worked out in the 2D and 3D prototyping softwear from Lectra. This was an important subject of the minor. This was a way for us to indicate weather the fit was right and if all the pockets, zippers and details were put on the right places. We made techpacks of all our designs and we had to make a movie to present our concept and our ideas. It was a minor in which research was the basis of the ideas and I learned a lot about pattern making, garment construction and 3D prototyping.
